About
The Most Precious Gift
A story to discover and cherish.
About the Story
The Most Precious Gift is a gentle, heart-led children’s story created to offer comfort, reassurance, and a deep sense of belonging. It is a story designed to be shared slowly — read together, talked about, and returned to over time.
Set within a tender, beautifully illustrated world, the story explores love, kindness, and the quiet ways families care for one another. Big ideas are introduced softly, through warmth, imagination, and connection — allowing meaning to unfold naturally, without overwhelm.
At the heart of the story is Longbrook Farm, where everyday moments carry quiet magic. When Annie Hen and her six fluffy chicks notice that Hattie’s nest is empty, they long to cheer her up. With a little imagination and a big heart, Annie’s family comes up with a thoughtful idea — one that gently changes everything.
Told in rhyme and rich with feeling, The Most Precious Gift celebrates empathy, belonging, and the extraordinary gift of giving.
A story to share, treasure, and hold close to the heart — always.
A story to discover and cherish.
Why This Story Was Written
The Most Precious Gift is a gentle, heart-led children’s story created to help children understand their beginnings in a way that feels safe, magical, and full of love.
Inspired by the birth of Gabrielle, this story was written from a mother’s wish to one day explain her daughter’s origins in a warm, simple, and reassuring way. Set in the comforting world of Longbrook Farm, the story introduces big ideas through kindness, belonging, and love — not medical language or complex explanations.
While the story was written with donor-conceived children and their families in mind, its message reaches beyond any single journey. It speaks to all families shaped by care, intention, and love — offering children reassurance, belonging, and pride in who they are and where they come from.
This book helps families begin important conversations naturally and positively, celebrating the love, hope, and planning behind every child’s story.

When I first held Gabrielle in my arms, I felt something I know so many parents feel — overwhelming love, gratitude… and a quiet promise to always protect her story.
Gabrielle was conceived through egg donation, and from the very beginning I knew that one day I would need to explain her origins. I wanted her to grow up knowing the truth — but more importantly, feeling safe, loved, and proud of how she came into the world.
I couldn’t find a story that explained donor conception in the way my heart wanted to tell it — gently, simply, and wrapped in warmth rather than science or clinical language. So I decided to write the story I wished existed.
The Most Precious Gift was written for Gabrielle — but also for every family walking this path. For the parents wondering how to start the conversation. For the children who deserve to hear their story in a way that feels magical, not medical. And for the quiet, brave love that sits behind every donor conception journey.
If this book helps even one child feel proud of who they are…
If it helps one family start an open, loving conversation…
Then it has done exactly what it was written to do.
From my heart to yours,
Thank you for being here and for being part of this story.
Every child’s beginning is precious.
Every story deserves to be told with love.

From the very first sketch, I felt a deep care for the world this story was asking to become.
The illustrations and characters for The Most Precious Gift were created as a world children can step into and return to — a place that feels gentle, safe, and quietly alive. Drawing on the warmth and pacing of traditional storybook illustration, I shaped the visual world to feel timeless — somewhere children can linger, explore, and feel held. Inspired by the small, meaningful details of everyday life, the illustrations were designed to support the emotional heart of this beautiful story.
I imagined the world of Longbrook Farm slowly and with great care, guided by my belief that children discover meaning through noticing, feeling, and revisiting. Every character, setting, colour, and small background detail carries its own quiet story — inviting children to look closely, form connections, and uncover moments of discovery within the pictures. I wanted this world not only to be seen, but to be felt — offering a sense of belonging through image as much as through story.
This approach is rooted in the way stories grow at home — through shared imagination, play, and the small everyday moments that become meaningful when given attention. I am a mum to boys, and together we often create stories and worlds, noticing how imagination can turn the simplest moments into something special. I believe there is a story in everything, if we take the time to look closely — in animals and landscapes, in gestures and expressions, and in the gentle rhythms of life that children instinctively understand.
Longbrook Farm is a place of comfort and curiosity — a world children can return to over time, finding reassurance in what is familiar and new meaning in what they discover again and again. It is a story world designed to grow alongside its readers — one to be treasured in childhood, and kept close long after.
The Most Precious Gift World
The world of The Most Precious Gift is a place children can return to — one shaped by gentleness, familiarity, and quiet discovery.
Longbrook Farm is filled with caring characters, comforting rhythms, and small details waiting to be noticed. It is a world where meaning unfolds slowly, allowing children to explore at their own pace and find reassurance in what feels familiar.
Each visit offers something new — a hidden moment, a subtle expression, a quiet connection — inviting children to look closely and build a relationship with the story over time. In this way, the world grows alongside its readers, offering comfort in repetition and wonder in discovery.
Future stories will continue to unfold within this world, deepening the connections between characters and places, and extending the sense of warmth, care, and belonging that lives at its heart.
